Dear ????????,

Chalice UU, located at 2324 Miller Avenue in Escondido, has scheduled a weekend to focus on Darfur on April 21 and 22. We are pleased to invite the residents of North County to attend. I think this could be a unique article for Today’s Local News and the San Diego Union Tribune.

The First Event is Saturday, April 21 at 7:00 p.m. Benson Deng, one of the authors of "They Poured Fire On Us From the Sky", the true story of the escape from Darfur by three young boys, will be making a presentation. Their book about Sudan is a powerful portrait of war as seen through the eyes of three children: Alephonsion Deng, Benson Deng, and Benjamin Ajak. Mr. Deng will first play a short film and then give his presentation followed by questions from the audience. The program will conclude with a book signing. There is a $10 donation requested for this event. Paperbacks of the book will be available for $13 and hardbacks are $25. For more information, you can check out the following web site: http://www.theypouredfire.com/. I have also attached a photo.

The second event is at our services on Sunday, April 22 at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Mr.Zacharia Diing Akol (Kongor, Sudan) from Darfur will give the sermon on the Darfur/Sudan crisis.

Mr. Akol was born and raised in Sudan but was forced to flee during the country's north-south civil war. He lived in Ethiopia and Kenya as a refugee until he resettled in Tucson, Arizona in 2001 where he briefly worked for Pima County as an instructional aide in the Refugee Community Interpreting Program before relocating to Lansing, Michigan. Shaped by his refugee life experiences, Akol developed a profound interest to study human conflicts, conflict management and resolution, as well as the acquisition of global peace. Mr Akol formed the Sudan Awareness and Support Group and continues working to raise awareness about Sudan's issues of war and peace with other organizations. He is currently working towards his MA at the University of San Diego, California with a focus on refugee issues, international relations, and human rights/ethics.

I am enclosing a photo of the three boys from Darfur and we can arrange for additional information and perhaps a telephone interview since both of the presenters now live locally.

If you would like more information feel free to contact ma at the number below or though email.

Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely,

Thanks,
